24 Things Progress

I liked working on the "23 Things" so much that I decided to continue and do Learning 2.1 (24 Things and on...).

Week 9, Thing 23: Summarizing!

My favorite discoveries was creating a blog, bloglines, Rollyo, RSS, and Podcasts, del.icio.us, Library Thing, and Flickr. This program was very easy to follow and the learning was interactive. Jacqueline

Week 9, Thing 22: Overdrive Titles

Since I was familiar with Overdrive and have used it to download titles, this exercise was easy.

Week 9, Thing 21: Tools for locating Podcasts

I was surprised to find a podcast from one of the websites I visit often! I added it to my bloglines account. Jacqueline

Week 9, Thing 20: YouTube

This video of Gus the Cairn Terrier watching television made me laugh. Jacqueline

Week 8, Thing 19: Explore Web 2.0 award site

I had a great time with this exercise and found several Web 2.0 award sites of interest to me. I liked "upcoming" under events. Wow! This makes searching for fun things to do in and around Baltimore alot easier than scanning the newspaper every day.

Week 8, Thing 18: Online productivity

I created an account in Zohowriter. I played around with several features and created a newsletter.

Week 7, Thing 17: Learning 2.0 Sandbox

The Maryland Libraries Sandbox was fun to explore. I started by adding my blog to the Favorite Blogs page. It looked weird so I did some editing and made it look right. Not sure what I did the first time. I also added an entry under Favorite Books - hard to pick a favorite - so I added The Memory Keeper's Daughter as a "current" read.

Week 7, Thing 16: Wikis

I love wikis! I am a Wiki addict now. I have my very own wiki. Wiki-away! Our library system uses them for team reports which makes it easy to track a team's progress.

Week 6, Thing 15: Web 2.0 and the Future

Away from Icebergs was interesting - a 55% decrease in circulation. Online databases are an excellent resource for librarians today. I like the "instant gratification" aspect of electronic resources for our customers. The Into a New World of Librarianship was another excellent read.

Week 6, Thing 14: Technorati

Hello again!
Technorati was unknown to me before this exercise. I tried the discovery exercises and I have to admit I was surprised at the difference in results - just goes to show you that how you search is as important as what you search. Jacqueline

Week 6, Thing 13: Tagging

Hello!
It is 12:29AM in the morning and I'm playing around on Del.icio.us. I created my account and added a few URL's for fun. I think Del.icio.us is an excellent tool for librarians. Most of us (librarians) use the same databases and/or websites for common questions, such as weather reports or zip code look-ups. With Del.icio.us, the Reference Dept. could create a list of websites to make searching more efficient.
I included the link to my account.

Week 5, Thing 12: Rollyo

I created my own search roll using Rollyo. I see where Rollyo has a great deal of potential - especially for libraries. I enjoyed browsing the search rolls that others have created and look forward to seeing what other "23 Thing" participants create using Rollyo. It was a challenge to get the Rollyo logo on my blog though. I almost smacked the computer.

Week 5, Thing 11: LibraryThing

Hello!

I created my own account in LibraryThing and added several titles. This is an incredible site and has lots of potential for me in my personal life.

Week 5, Thing 10: Online Image Generator

Yahoo! Avatars U.K. & Ireland

Meet Olivia, my avatar. This exercise was frustrating for me. I had difficulty concentrating due to constant interruptions at work - of course, that was one of my things on the Learning contract. I obviously haven't found a way to deal with it. I am pleased with my avatar and how it turned out. I might do a "wild" avatar later. Thanks!
Jacqueline

Week 4, Thing 9: Locating a Library Blog

I found many library related blogs and subscribed to quite a few. I found Helen Blowers site and subscribed (Learning 2.1 is available - cool)! I used all of the search tools recommended for this exercise and found Feedster and Topix.net to be my favorites.
Jacqueline

Week 4, Thing 8: RSS Feeds

Hi!
This exercise was the most interesting to me because I was not very familiar with RSS. The videos, Podcast, and tutorial were helpful. I set up my acccount and picked a few library related RSS feeds for subscription. You can view it at:

Have fun!
Jacqueline

Week 3, Thing 7: Technology Blog Post

There is so much that appeals to me - it is hard to narrow it down to one technology related topic. I thought virtual classrooms was another fantastic use of Second Life. Harvard uses it for some of their classes. The students/instructors all have avatars and meet in the virtual classroom for course work. Wow!
Jacqueline

Week 3, Thing 6: Flickr Mashups

The Flickr Mash-ups was a fun exercise to explore. I was intrigued by the FD Toy's Trading Card Maker and plan to make my own trading card soon.

Week 2, Thing 4: Register Your Blog

Hello,
It's me again. I registered my blog today! I am looking forward to communicating with others who are participating in this project. I am enjoying this so far and look forward to learning more. I love having a blog. Yada! yada! yada!
Jacqueline

Week 2, Thing 3: Setting Up Your Own Blog

Hi,
Setting up my own blog was very easy - much easier than I thought.

Week 3, Thing # 5, Explore Flickr

Wiggles

Here's a photograph of Wiggles, my very energetic Cairn Terrier. Wiggles was named because she is very "wiggly." She wiggles when she walks, she wiggles when she greets you, she wiggles for her food, she wiggles, wiggles, wiggles.
Wiggles loves socks and will steal any sock you leave on the floor.

Week 1, Thing 1 & 2: Pointers from Lifelong Learners

Hello!
Almost all of the 7.5 habits are easy for me except using technology to my full advantage! I am familiar with technology and use it on a regular basis but I definitely do not use it to my advantage. The easiest habit, by far, is creating my own learning toolbox. I am self-motivated to learn and have a huge toolbox assembled to help me in this process.
